This is the first language using a LDB concept and also compiler could show what type error prsesent and how to clear that error aslo.the main thing is by using the 4gl we can easily generate the commercial software easily..

4th generation languages useage more comman english word as a commands or instructions.
which is famlier for all type of users, that6 they not famlier with other traditional programming languages susch as c, c++, cobol, fortran etc.

Because the syntax is as good as writing a instruction in english language.
for eg.
if we want to check is any variable is empty, then in any or\ther lanuage we would have wrote
if var != NULL.
but in ABAP it is,
if var IS NOT INITIAL.

ABAP/4 Means-it is developed in 4th geeration.It was started from 1972 by germen software company.It is totaly developed in fourth generation.
